Vietnam Explorer Day #7

Today we got up and was greeted in reception by somebody from the cookery school we were visiting. She took us around the market showing us ingredients that we would be using in some of our dishes, like turmeric and lemongrass. There was a sight I won’t forget for a while – people skinning frogs and beheading them. One was jumping around with no head which naturally freaked me out.


Red snapper is our new favourite fish – I even think we are having this at Adrian’s mum and dad’s for Christmas Dinner!

After perusing around the market, we got on a boat to get to the cooking class. It was a really nice place situated on the edge of the river which seemed in the middle of nowhere, away from the main town.


I really enjoyed the cooking class. We first watched the chef prepare each dish and then in turn went to our work stations to recreate, with people on hand to help when it was going horribly wrong! I like to think I’m a bit of a cook so I think I did pretty well!

I think this was one of my favourites – pork and prawn spring roll pancake with a peanut sauce. Yum!

We also learnt how to make tomato roses – look our dinner guests, you’ll be getting some amazing creations on the side of your food now!

This was the only thing I didn’t like. The sauce was amazing – made with lemongrass – but I really am not a fan of aubergine.

After lunch we headed back to the hotel. Today our afternoon activity was optional, and we decided to give it a miss and do our own thing. It took all of our efforts not to sleep because we were so tired!

We were going for a first fitting for Adrian’s suit at 2pm – and it was amazing! Less than 24 hours and he was stood there in his three-peice and white shirt. It only needed altering very slightly on the waist, so we were going back to collect it later.

We spent the rest of the afternoon by the pool in the sun sipping ice-tea. It was a holiday moment that I could relate too!

The rest of the day consisted of a nap, picking Adrian’s suit up and having a wander around Hoi An, and then getting dinner at the hotel with cocktails of course. Another day over. The holiday started to speed up by this point, the first week went at a lovely pace!
